Least Terns

Least terns nesting behind the protection of signs put up by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The little sticks are tounge depressors used to mark nests for a research project underway.

The nesting season has progressed.  After a summer of flooding, only two nesting sites in Kentucky have active nest sites.  Here’s a few phots shot while working this week.
