Eastern Kentucky Elk

A young bull walks along a ridge top in Eastern Kentucky. Kentucky is now the home to the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi River. This bull has a radio transmitter which is part of a study examining survival of bulls. Nikon D4 with AFS Nikkor 600mm f/4 VRII.

I had the opportunity to join KDFWR staff in western Kentucky for a day of elk photography.  I was hoping to catch some nice bulls with fall colors as a backdrop.  Well, one day whirlwind trips have a way of not working out as you had envisioned.  It was till a great trip and I have lots of great ideas for future trips.
